We use the word fellowship for many activities around church. Most of the time we really mean that we will gather and eat. Growing up, I thought the word fellowship was just a fancy word for eating at church. In recent years, another word has grown in our vocabulary. That word is "community." Many of you simply think of the surrounding geographical area when you hear that word. Over the next four weeks, we will examine what community means from a biblical perspective. John, Ryan and myself will be exploring Community@Church: The Open Door.
Over the last couple of weeks, I have met and talked with numerous guests on Sundays at FBC. When asked about what brought them to FBC Sanger that morning, their answers invariably center not just on a desire to worship but, also, on the desire to meet new friends and develop a sense of community. The Pastoral Staff prayed over the challenge of helping us live out the challenge of community. Over the next four weeks we will challenge our church to develop true community.
This Sunday and Monday also begins new Growth Groups. These groups will focus on developing true community. Growth Groups will discuss the sermon from Sunday morning, spend time praying and spend time getting to know one another. Yes, we will also fellowship (eat). If you haven't joined a group, talk to John about getting signed up for one.
