This Sunday I will talk about Jesus’ love for His mother shown on the cross. In an interesting twist, Jesus places His mother in the care of one of His disciples, not in the care of His brother. We must remember that, at the time, Jesus’ brothers were not among His followers. By His actions, Jesus placed the Family of God in importance over the biological family. For those of us living in the same town as extended family, this is hard to comprehend.
For 20 years, I lived away from my biological family. This enabled me to see the true importance of my church family. At times I miss the extreme closeness with my church family that grew especially during challenging times. When my niece passed away, it was my church family that made travel arrangements for us. When we needed someone to stand in the gap for us, the church filled that gap. As we approach Easter, consider who you can invite into your family to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. Who needs you to fill the gap in their life?
