A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon. Three worms were placed into separate jars. The first worm was put into a jar of alcohol. The second worm was put into a jar of cigarette smoke. The third worm was put into a jar of good, clean soil. At the conclusion of the sermon, the minister reported the following results: 1. The first worm in alcohol - DEAD. 2. The second worm in cigarette smoke - DEAD. 3. The third worm in good, clean soil - ALIVE. So the minister asked the congregation, "What can you learn from this demonstration?" A little old woman in the back quickly raised her hand and said, "As long as you drink or smoke, you won't have worms!" That was not quite what the pastor wanted them to learn.
This past weekend, was DNow weekend, which is all about discipleship. Ryan and a whole lot of volunteers led our youth to be focused on serving the Lord. We all probably approached the weekend with different pre-conceived notions of what it would be about. There were Bible Studies on being a servant; there was worship where kids were saved; there were opportunities to serve and then we had three worship services on Sunday to boot!
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above what we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” Ephesians 3:20
I learned a lot throughout the whole weekend: how great our youth are and all the things they will tell you when it’s late and they’re tired! I learned we have a lot of folks that can make great breakfast casseroles!
I was reminded that God is still in the business of changing lives! Sure, the 9:30 service went a little long, but seeing kids praying at the altar makes it all worth it! Lest we forget, that is why we are here. That’s why this building is standing on 5th Street! We are here to help people find Jesus and experience real life change.
