Enjoying The Journey

Two tourists were driving through Louisiana. As they were approaching Natchitoches, they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town. They argued back and forth until they stopped for lunch. As they stood at the counter, one tourist asked the blonde employee, "Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us? Would you please pronounce where we are... very slowly?" The blonde girl leaned over the counter and said, "Burrrrrrrr, gerrrrrrr, Kiiiiing!"

“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” Genesis 15:1

As I read this, I thought about how often I am so focused on the goal of the journey or the deadlines and responsibilities of the day, that I miss the blessing of the journey. The Lord is our Shield, so I don't need to run to protection and peace, He is my Strength and He is with me! He is my Reward! I get caught up working on so many projects and plans, reaching for goals and marking things off my “To Do List,” because it feels good to get things done. But I need to remember that I can walk with my Reward today. I know there is so much more in eternity, but is there any more today? Can it get any better right now, when the God of all creation holds out His hand, inviting me to walk with Him? So, do not be afraid to obey and walk with Him in fellowship and love, because the Lord is our Shield; He is our Reward.
