A man was on a hiking holiday in a foreign country. He became thirsty, so he decided to stop at a stranger's home to ask for something to drink. The lady of the house invited him in and served him a bowl of soup by the fire. There was a wee pig running around the kitchen -- running up to the visitor and giving him a great deal of attention. The visitor commented that he had never seen a pig this friendly. The housewife replied: "Ummm, he's not that friendly. That's his bowl you're using!"
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2
We live in a world that is constantly pushing and pulling us to put down our standards and compromise to be like it. There is that constant pressure to put yourself on the throne and do what you want, demand your rights, be yourself, take what you want, take care of yourself … That mindset is as old as the Garden, and the serpent is still tempting us to disregard God and His Word and His Will in order to get what is ours. This is not of God.
“For all that is in the world: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world.” I John 2:16
He has so much more for us, but we convince ourselves that drinking out of a pig’s bowl is fine. His will is good and acceptable and perfect, meaning that it is fulfilling. Don’t settle for a pig’s bowl when it comes to leading your children spiritually, train them up in the Lord, have them in church to worship and be discipled. Don’t settle for the pig’s bowl when it comes to your money, time, talents or experience, invest in the Kingdom of God.
