Being Thankful

Two bachelors were talking. One said to the other, "I got a cookbook the other day, but I can't do any of the recipes." "Why? Are they too difficult?" asked the second. "No," the first replied. "It's just that they all start with the same thing: 'Take a clean dish...'"

Matthew 25:44-46: “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, in as much as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Two years ago, we had our first God’s Table. We had 15 guests and 30 volunteers! It was such a blessing and there was so much enthusiasm to serve the Lord and our community. That enthusiasm has not really slowed down a bit as I still have people come and ask how they can get involved, but it’s tied to our Connection Bible Study groups for a reason: it’s a regular opportunity to serve others and fellowship together as a group. God has blessed us much more than he has blessed the individuals that we serve. Thanksgiving is almost here, so let me share my thanks. Thank you to Linda Dillon who has managed this ministry and coordinates it with our Youth Ministry so that we are good stewards of our resources. Thank you to Pat Shelton who has helped with meeting other needs of our guests. Thank you to our cooks, thank you so much for the delicious meals you prepare and the love and compassion that goes in them! Thank you to all our classes and ministries that serve with grace and joy and sit down with our guests each week. In our two years, we have served guests 4,147 meals at our church with 2,487 volunteers. I have not kept a record of all the “take home” meals, but we have volunteers that take them to shut ins in our church and community and some of our guests take home the leftovers each week. This ministry has never needed church budget funds because so many members donate regularly to God’s Table. And I can't leave out the folks that keep the dishes clean every week! So, THANK YOU! And to God be the glory!
