A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible - Psalm 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the chapter. Little Ricky was excited about the task - but he just couldn't remember the Psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line. On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the congregation, Ricky was so nervous. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, "The Lord is my Shepherd, and that's all I need to know.”
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
If you look at Joshua 1, you see that Moses, the great leader of God’s people has passed away and God had given Joshua the responsibility of leading His people into the promised land. He had big shoes to fill, great responsibility, and he’d lost his friend and leader. But in those first eight verses of that chapter, the Lord told him, “Be strong and courageous and I will be with you and will not forsake you.” The Lord repeated this promise and challenge and the “how to.”
We may not be leading thousands into the Promised Land, but God has a plan for your life and we all have our challenges. Best of all we all have this promise to go along with the plans the Lord has for us: “be strong and courageous to do all His Word has told us to do.” He will be our strength, give us courage and He will be present in our lives if we walk in obedience. He does not threaten to leave us, we are the ones that leave Him when we get away from His Word. There is no task too big for those that are willing to walk with the Lord. What is God leading you to do this year? Embrace the challenge, obey His Word and He will lead us – that’s all we need to know!
