I think we can consider Streets of Bethlehem a success. As stated Sunday morning, I would have been pleased with an attendance of 200 for the weekend. I underestimated the popularity of this event by about 1,100! If you can do the math, you know we had right at 1,300 for the weekend. Throughout the weekend, we made adjustments based on crowd size and reaction....Keep Reading

Real Love

Too often, we get familiar with an someone and we begin to take them for granted. We’re all guilty of this to different degrees, but as we grow in our faith in Christ and commitment to Him, this should improve. We have to get away from the shallow, “be praying for you,” and “love you,” and move on to love in action and truth....Keep Reading

What We Do Know

I’m not that different than many that will read this. Terry and I have lost friends, grandparents, my parents, her father, a little brother, and our son, Jordan. It’s only by the grace of God that I’m somewhat sane and Terry and I are still married because of the stress involved. By His Grace, God has helped me so many times. And when I’ve not been what I need to be, His Grace has healed and strengthened my heart, my commitment, and my spirit. He’s just that awesome! And though I’ve experienced deep pain where I cried out until I was empty, I’ve been blessed beyond my ability to express. He has given me perspective and compassion through my painful losses to the point where I have grown and experienced real joy....Keep Reading

Jesus Christ is the Same

My heart is heavy for the members of the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs and their community this Monday morning. Since the moment I read about this tragedy, my thoughts and prayers have been focused on this congregation and its pastor. I cannot fathom the depth of this kind of loss. Then, I read my scripture for today, Hebrews 13:8."Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."...Keep Reading

Getting people in the building the first time is probably half the challenge for us. Making sure they recognize the value of being part of a church family is the rest of the challenge. What's On Your Mind?

Posted onOctober 25, 2017 | by: John Guerra | 0 comments

It’s all about free will. We choose how we think, what we say, and how we treat others. Where is our mind? If it’s focused on selfish wants, selfish feelings, and selfish plans; we’re making a bad trade. We can choose to be happy. We can choose to move forward with a positive attitude or stomp our feet and throw a pity party. Where’s your mind? Your legacy is right behind you, being established by your steps, which are directed by your thoughts. What will that look like?...Keep Reading

Though we grieve with those grieving and hurt with the hurting, we know this story plays out: Jesus is the Overcomer! His grace can heal, His love can bring light. His presence can bring peace. He is our Hope! In the midst of the storm, we can have peace! Why? How? Our God is on the throne! I have entered the gate and I'm safe! If you know Jesus, you're safe, too!...Keep Reading

The Things Above

The Great Commission is not about leading and loving people to stand for our National Anthem, our Great Commission is about leading and loving people to bow before Jesus Christ for salvation and eternal life. Our world is full of disrespectful behavior, but if our mind is on things above, we’ll not get caught up in the issues of this world that divide us and characterize us as unloving and self-righteous. Only we can set our minds on things above, no one else....Keep Reading

We sometimes think that revenge is going to feel good, but it really doesn’t. It might for a minute, but a guilty heart just burns. What feels good is being nice to our enemies. But to make that change in our attitude and heart, we have to fight the evil feelings and inclinations of unforgiveness and anger, trust God and “overcome evil with good.”...Keep Reading

Let’s join together and invest in the next generation of FBC Sanger. Even though I have been here two years, I often think about how decisions made now will impact the next pastor of this church. I hope that next pastor will not arrive for 20 years but decisions regarding the use of resources now will impact this church 20 years from now. Wake up and love. Wake up and love your neighbor! Again, that sounds a whole lot nicer than what might really be going on here. Like, quit loving yourself or putting yourself before everyone else. . It is the Father’s plan that we grow into the image of His Son, Jesus. It doesn’t matter how long we have been believers, but we must never stop growing. When we’re not growing, we are vulnerable to false doctrines and deceptive men who might use us to get what they want. If we’re not growing, we’ll be more self-centered and self-absorbed like a baby. If we’re not growing, we can’t help but talk like babies, but one of the most awkward situations is when big people talk like babies. ...Keep Reading

God’s Word defines love in 1 Corinthians 13. Love is putting another’s well-being before our own. From there, the youth took over for the weekend with D-Now.
